Departure cleaning shared areas
The departure cleaning of the common areas is a shared responsibility. When a tenant departs a shared apartment, all tenants should get together to clean the shared areas thoroughly. Adequate time should be allocated to cleaning tasks.
The departing tenant shall also clean their private room. If a thorough cleaning of all areas has not been carried out, you risk getting a bill.
How do we assess shared areas?
We are aware that there are remaining tenants at all times, and we will assess accordingly. It is a good idea to take close-up pictures of all areas before departure and have them on file.
The inspectors can easily tell the difference between crumbles from this morning’s breakfast and an oven which has not been cleaned all week – let alone all semester.
Keep in mind, cleaning should always be done during the semester and everyone in the apartment has a responsibility to inhibit build-up.
